The Ankle Stretch Device (ASD) is a unique piece of rehabilitation equipment designed to
help increase the range of motion of the ankle and the structures about the ankle and
lower leg.

The conventional stretch does not prevent the heel from coming up off the ground when
the stretch force is being applied.

The ASD is designed to hold the heel down while the leg is taken forward in relation to the
foot. This will stretch the ankle joint, the capsule of the ankle, the superficial and deep
muscles of the lower leg.

Passive Stretch of the Ankle Joint

The ankle is often restricted in the talo-crural joint, with the pressure felt in the front of the joint during the stretch. The range can
be increased with the assistance of the ASD. The talus is fixated while the tibia and fibula are brought  forward over the talus.
There can be a small pad placed in front of the strap for increased comfort.

Manual Therapy
With the Talus fixated, the Tibia can be mobilized forward either in a static position or during active dorsi-flexion.
The side board can be placed under either side of the ASD to allow stretch into eversion or inversion.
