Defense - explained through the acronym "ATTACK" A - AttitudeThe starting point of all defense is the determination to become an aggressive, intelligent defensive player. Each player must develop and maintain control of his or her playing attitude, especially on defense. T - Teamwork The collective effort of five defensive players is greater than five individual efforts. Play together.
cont'd from above... T - Tools of Defense The four basic physical tools are the mind, body, feet, and eyes. The hands can be a help or a hindrance. When the others are used first, hands can then be used as an advantage. A - Anticipation Players must use basketball sense and judgment (mind) triggered by vision. They should see the ball at all times and use ther eyes to anticipate. Quickness in anticipating is based upon physical readiness and mental anticipation. C - Concentration Players should be alert and ready to play defense at all times. They must access the situation and be able to take away the opponent's strength. Avoid resting on defense, so you can maintain your edge. K - Keep in Stance The player should maintain their ready stance at all times. The player should not gamble a lot because it may take him/her out of position. Always be ready to capitalize on your opponent's mistakes. |
