Post Play Fundamentals
Backboard Shots
Offensive players should use the
backboard when shooting
after most inside moves, especially when shooting from a 45 degree
angle, using
a power move, or in an offensive rebounding situation.
The rule is "when going to
the glass,
use the glass" (unless dunking the ball).

Expect Contact
Because the inside area
is frequently crowded, there is
often a lot of contact. Inside players
should create contact and use their bodies to control defenders. Players must learn to initiate contact while
maintaining balance and proper stance (staying low with a wide base and
ready
feet).
Hands Up
Passing to inside players is difficult because there is
little margin for error due to crowded passing lanes and short windows
of
time. Because of that, inside players
should always be prepared to receive a quick pass by having both hands
up.
